I knew Bobby when we were both attending Pacific High School in San Leandro, CA. We both graduated in June 1966. We were both in first period PE. I was a fairly new guy and we hung with differnt peopel but I knew him and remember him as always laughing and smiling never giving anybody a hard time. I was in Quang Tri Provience when Bobby was killed. I was with 2nd BN 1st Marines. I found out he was killed when I received a San Leandro Morning News paper sent to me by my girl friend at the time Gayle Garrett. I just remember being stunned. I had only been incountry 2 weeks. Ever since that day he has been on my mind along with Keith Swanson (killed in Quang Tri) and Richard Hammett, Killed a year later. We all went to Pacific High and all graduated together. All good men. I was very moved by Mr. De Wolf's story but not suprised. I can just see Bobby standing up and waiving him to safety. His nephew's story brought me to tears at dinner last night when I was telling my wife about it. My daughter is only 5 and she looked at me and asked me what I was talking about. She knew I was in the Marines when I was a "young man" so she said daddy was that when you where a young man? I said yes and changed the subject. I just want Bobby's friends and family to know that I am thinking about them. Semper Fi.
