Make Plans Now To Be A Part of the 30th Anniversary of The Wall

Nearly 2,000 Volunteers Needed to Read All 58,272 Names

As part of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of The Wall, VVMF has launched the application process for The Reading of the Names ceremony.  Beginning on November 7th, The Reading of the Names is a four-day event where all 58,272 names inscribed on The Wall are read aloud by volunteers.

The reading will begin following a ceremony at the Memorial at 3:00 p.m. on November 7. The event will span 65 hours over a four-day period, during which nearly 2,000 volunteers will read the 58,272 names inscribed on The Wall. The names will be read in the order they were taken from us.

The Reading of the Names during the 25th Anniversary of The Wall

This is only the fifth time in The Wall’s 30-year history that all of the names have been read in Washington, D.C.  The first time was at the National Cathedral in 1982 as part of the Memorial’s original dedication. For the 10th, 20th and 25th anniversaries, the names were read at The Wall.

The Reading of the Names is an essential part of the 30th anniversary of The Wall commemoration. The week of events will culminate with the annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11.

Photo Collection For The Education Center "Wall of Faces" crosses 32,000 photos

The Wall-USA Donates 8,700 Photos of Fallen Heroes

The National Call for Photos is a campaign to collect the more than 58,000 photos of service members inscribed on The Wall. These photos will eventually be displayed in the Education Center at The Wall as part of a special "Wall of Faces" exhibit.

The Wall-USA, in an ongoing partnership with VVMF, recently donated their database of more than 8,700 photographs of fallen servicemen and women to be used in the Education Center at The Wall.

This generous donation brings the total number of photographs collected by VVMF to more than 32,000 -- more than 50% complete.

Education Center at The Wall Campaign Volunteer Janna Hoehn Named One of Maui's Most Influential People

Longtime Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund contributor Janna Hoehn, of Maui, Hawaii was named one of the island’s most influential people in a recent article in The Maui News.

Ms. Hoehn located and submitted photographs of all 42 service-members who perished in Vietnam from her home island, working diligently throughout the process.  “I’ve met some lovely, lovely people,” said Hoehn, “this has been a true honor for me.”

Her efforts to collect these photographs allows the service-members from Maui to be immortalized in the Education Center at The Wall, a place on the National Mall that will show the faces of our military heroes and honor their service and sacrifice.

As Ms. Hoehn looks toward the future, she hopes to display the photographs she has collected on her own memorial wall.  In conjunction, she has expanded her photo search to include service-members from her hometown of Hemet, California.

VVMF is proud to collaborate with Ms. Hoehn as we look forward to the construction of the Education Center at The Wall and the completion of the National Call for Photos.  “Janna’s help ensures that the sacrifices made by our greatest heroes never go unnoticed and unappreciated,” said Jan C. Scruggs, Founder and President of VVMF.
