For a mother who sends her son or daughter off to war, there is nothing harder than hearing the news that their child will not be coming home. Sadly, many mothers have, and continue, to face this grim reality as time passes.
In recognition of this sacrifice, the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund (VVMF) holds their annual Mother’s Day at the Wall ceremony. The proceedings feature Mother’s Day cards made by grade school students, which are left at the Wall and selectively read aloud by mothers of fallen service members.
The ceremony concludes with the traditional card-laying by mothers at the base of the Wall: a tribute to all mothers who made the ultimate sacrifice – losing a child – on behalf of an indebted nation.
For more information about the Mother's Day at The Wall ceremony, please contact VVMF at (202) 393-0090 or via e-mail at vvmf@vvmf.org.
