HOLIDAY TREE AT THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL
DISPLAYS THOUSANDS OF GREETINGS
FOR VETERANS AND ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Holiday Tree Ceremony
Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at 10 a.m.

WHAT: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund will honor veterans and active-duty military with personal holiday greetings sent to the Memorial Fund by Americans across the country.

The annual Holiday Tree at The Wall ceremony begins at the East Knoll. Volunteers and a small group of service members from Walter Reed Army Hospital, who recently served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, will read some of the greetings before the tree is placed at the apex of The Wall and decorated with the cards by volunteers and visitors.

  • Rev. William E. Calbert, Shiloh Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran

WHERE: Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Wash., D.C. (Constitution Ave. & 21st St., NW)

BACKGROUND: Established in 1979, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the non-profit organization authorized by Congress to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Today, through a series of outreach programs, the organization works to preserve the legacy of The Wall, to promote healing and to educate about the impact of the Vietnam War.
