MOTHER’S DAY TRIBUTE TO BE HELD AT
VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL
Girl Scouts Will Present Handmade Cards for Mothers of Vietnam and Iraq Veterans
Sunday, May 8 at 9 a.m.

WHO:

Mothers whose children served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War and other military conflicts will be honored with roses and handmade Mother’s Day cards by students from across the country, at the Sixth Annual Mother’s Day at The Wall

The Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital will present cards and roses to members of the American Gold Star Mothers and American War Mothers who, dressed in their official regalia, will read the cards and leave them at the base of The Wall.  The organizations are for women who lost their children in battle and who have children in service, respectively.

National President of American Gold Star Mother’s Inc., Ann Herd, whose son Ronald Ward Herd is inscribed on Panel 8W, Line 85 on The Wall, will speak at the event and Harry G. Robinson III, FAIA, board member of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

WHAT: Sixth Annual Mother’s Day at The Wall

WHEN: Sunday, May 8 at 9 a.m.

WHERE: East Knoll of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial site at Constitution Ave. and 21st St., NW

WHY: The Mother’s Day at The Wall ceremony is an opportunity to remember and honor these women whose lives are forever changed due to war; to pay tribute to their children who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country; and to those who are in harm's way today.

Established in 1979, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the non-profit organization authorized by Congress to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.  Today, through a series of outreach programs, it is dedicated to preserving the legacy of The Wall; promoting healing; educating about the impact of the Vietnam War; and is building the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center, an underground educational facility, near The Wall.
