SCRUGGS TO ACCEPT MEDAL FOR PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP AMONG NATIONS FROM VIETNAM UNION OF FRIENDSHIP ORGANIZATIONS
Monday, August 20 Reception to be Held at Hanoi’s Press Club at 7:30 p.m.

The Medal for Peace and Friendship Among Nations is awarded by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) to honor individuals and organizations that are contributing to the promotion and enhancement of mutual understanding, peace and friendship between the Vietnamese people and the people of the world. This is a highly prestigious award given to organizations of the highest merit after years of significant work in Vietnam. This year’s Medal is being given to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) and is being accepted by the group’s president, Jan Scruggs. Since 2000, VVMF has operated Project RENEW™ in Quang Tri Province, which is aimed at removing land mines and unexploded ordnance, providing mine awareness education, making health care available to land mine victims and giving them income assistance to help them become self-supporting. |

Established in 1979, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Today, through a series of outreach programs, it is dedicated to preserving the legacy of The Wall, promoting healing, educating about the impact of the Vietnam War and is building the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center, an underground educational facility, near The Wall.
