Bob and Brenda Dobek
Site Managers, The Wall That Heals

For Bob and Brenda Dobek driving The Wall That Heals to communities throughout the United States is a job that takes them “on the road again.” Before being named as the new site managers for The Wall That Heals, the Dobeks successfully ran their own business, B Team Inc., for nine years, leasing a semi-truck that they owned and operated to MCT Transportation LLC.

Throughout their many years on the road, Bob and Brenda have made safety a top priority, and that dedication has paid off. In April 2009, they were awarded a certificate of safe driving for achieving 1 million accident- and ticket-free miles. They have also earned 13 winter safe driving awards.

Bob Dobek is from Novi, Michigan, a town just outside of Detroit. After graduating from high school in 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and began his long career as an active duty soldier, which took him many places, including Korea and Germany. He earned numerous decorations over the course of his career, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Service Medal.  After leaving active duty, Bob served stints with the Michigan and Iowa Army National Guard and Army Reserve.  In 1995, he retired from the military and began driving long haul with his wife, Brenda.

Brenda Dobek was born in Hamilton, Ohio. After high school, she studied accounting and banking at Indiana University East as well as computer training at Des Moines Area Community College.

Bob and Brenda were married in 1987. Both have children from previous marriages, and between them, they have six grandchildren, who they always find time to visit.

The Doubeks say they are honored to be serving as the site managers for The Wall That Heals and are glad they can help bring healing and education to communities across America. Bob especially is glad to have a job that allows him to be a part of the military community again and reconnect with fellow soldiers.

As a former soldier himself, Bob especially understands the importance of honoring those who serve. “While I never served in the Vietnam War,” he said, “I understand the sacrifice our soldiers gave and the respect they deserve for that sacrifice.”  It is this connection that drives the Dobeks to honor and remember all who served in defense of our great nation.
